Next Generation Apple CarPlay Revealed

Apple has been known to drop great features coming up with its product launches at the WWDC events is a great platform in which they let the consumer into upcoming releases. This year’s WWDC saw the mobile giant release one feature that caught our attention, namely the revamped Apple CarPlay set to be available with iOS 16.

The next generation CarPlay has seen some major upgrades, from curated themes, extended widgets and so much more. The layout has been reworked to mimic the brand’s OS ‘look & feel’ and greatly improved in that it works with the car’s hardware to achieve this.

Apple has been behind privacy from as far back as we can remember and they noted that these new features will not fall short off their promise to always keep the consumer’s privacy protected by all means.

This new upgrade begs the question though: though the cockpit seems to have been upgraded significantly, it does feel like it might be a distraction will all the widgets available to the the driver as the dashboard might get clustered. This, however, can be mitigated by the driver as they can personalise their experience.

Another question we have is what happens with the manufactures apps that have been working to create a personalised experience for the vehicle owners?

We reckon that the manufacturers with the big screens, like in the Mercedes C-Class & BMW electric ranges will take full advantage of this feature as drivers will be able to fully customise their experience. One this is for sure is that we are genuinely looking forward to seeing how the updated CarPlay will come in with the range of vehicles that have integrated such solutions in their cars, which is mostly every new car produced today and how the brand apps will fit into this world aswell.

Local manufacturers that have been confirmed this far to see these upgrades will be:

  • Audi
  • Ford
  • Honda
  • Jaguar
  • Land Rover
  • Mercedes Benz
  • Nissan
  • Porsche
  • Renault
  • Volvo

We hope to see more manufacturers jumping on to the update and hope for an improved experience with the software upgrade.
