Garmin has officially given us the date for a much-anticipated upgrade to their Fenix multisport range, with the fēnix® 7 set to be released in South Africa from January 2022. The multisport watch plays on its predecessor but not only having a range of upgraded features, that we will touch on here, but also going touch screen. It’s imperative to note that the Fenix range is presumably the brands most “fit” range in the series of watches they offer.

For the watch to be adding a touch screen, it adds a few benefits, especially when switching between disciplines – think multisport mode when one is in the heat of a race. This also adds onto the already pre-existing buttons from the previous range, so no shock to the system with athlete having to learn a new system for the watch.
The battery life has also been improved, with the watch noting that it lasts for 37 days on the Solar edition, which means more time to play the field in that regard.
Along with a range of improvements made to the software features, more so the outdoor activities, more features have been added on to the watch (i.e., bouldering for the rock climbers) backcountry ski for those who love having fun in the snow, Dynamic data for mountain bike riders and HIIT having its own feature and falling away from cardio workouts.

The fēnix® 7 starts at price tag of R13 499.00 for the standard 42MM edition and works its way up to R19 499.00 for the Sapphire Solar 51 MM edition.
Verdict?
The Fenix range has the capacity to take a beating, and any triathlete/cyclist can attest to this. For a long-term multisport watch, it is worth the buy considering that the Fenix range don’t necessarily “break” under pressure. Hopefully this becomes a new addition to the next level of athletes looking for a rugged Garmin multisport watch they can take along with on their next triathlon or even longer distance event.
